Food losses can have a major economic impact on household food security and income levels. The quantity and/or quality of loss is affected by practices at all stages of the value chain. To reduce losses, it is essential to encourage farmers, processors, traders, and transporters to improve practices before, during, and after harvest. This short technical guide gives practical advice on reducing post-harvest losses at these different stages, and key resources for further reading.

The guidance is mainly for project staff working with smallholder farmers, such as those targeted by USAID/Food for Peace (FFP)-funded programs.
