Farmer Group Development Strategy/Tool Needed

Farmer Group Development Strategy/Tool Needed

Posted by sieravercillo on 23 Jan 2014

Hi Everyone,

I am piloting a curriculum / tool in Sierra Leone meant to:

a) strengthen farmer groups and build their agribusiness capacity, and
b) build the capacity of agricultural extension agents in modernised advisory services

This pilot will be with 25 farmer groups and 15 extension staff. The majority of the farmer groups are women's groups.

I was wondering if anyone recommends a M&E strategy / tool / approach to monitor this tool / curriculum. I am looking for something that is rigorous, providing data that can then be communicated for further scale. Also a strategy that is flexible enough to capture intangible skills gained, such as confidence, leadership etc. Ideally an approach that could  point you in a direction for what would need to be reiterated for greater impact.

This pilot is working in a greater context of the goal towards food security.

If you could recommend any strategies, why you recommend them and provide links or resources that would be much appreciated.

All the best and thank you for your help!,

some resources posted to the FSN Network

Hello Siera,

There are a few resources posted on this site that may be helpful as you develop and implement your work.

Check out page 23 of Reducing the Gender Gap in Agricultural Extension and Advisory Services.

The World Bank has produced Gender Issues in Monitoring and Evaluation in Agriculture.

Here is a presentation on whether or not a cascade model used for nutrition activities can work for agriculture.

WFP's Purchase for Progress program may also have some great tools and examples. Please let me know if you would like me ask around to see if that is true.

Do you have any interest in measuring time and labor allocation?  I have some tools that I can share.  Just let me know.

Kristi

Thanks!

Siera, it looks like Patrice was able to share the tool out in our shared document repository for the African Monitoring and Evaluation group. You can access it here:
