This six-lesson module focuses on helping mothers recognize hunger, satiety and other cues from their babies and then teaches them how to respond to those cues with love and affection. Responsive breastfeeding and complementary feeding behaviors that encourage cue recognition and response are emphasized, such as sitting with the child while feeding, singing songs, talking or looking for early hunger signs may lead to improvements in child feeding that lead to better weight gain and decreased malnutrition. Activities that promote learning, such as practice feeding, inventing songs to share, etc. are included to help mothers overcome barriers to change.

The module was funded by a TOPS Small Grant.
