Implementing Political Will: Effective Leadership in Delivering WASH For All
Sectors:
Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene
It is widely accepted in the water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) sector that the ‘political will’ of national leaders is essential to achieve universal access to sustainable services. However, the evidence suggests that high-level political commitments and intentions to achieve transformational change are, by themselves, insufficient. This paper aims to open up discussion in the WASH sector on political will beyond statements of commitment and identify ways that leadership activities are translated into effective administrative actions and implementation.
