Building on complementary mixed-methods data from Mercy Corps' Development Food Security Activity (DFSA) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, this case study analyzes three learning questions:
- How can we conceptualize smallholder producer organization viability in South Kivu?
- What are the viability strengths and weaknesses of producer organizations participating in the activity?
- What relationship exists between viability and sales?
The case study leverages data from literature reviews, expert interviews, focus group discussions, and quantitative data from 83 producer organizations and youth business groups collected through Mercy Corps' Producer Organization Viability Evaluation (POVE) in April 2020.
