In this book, the authors provide data and analysis to show that women must be empowered to become better farmers in order to raise levels of productivity and production and achieve the dramatic improvements in food security and nutrition that are so urgently needed in sub-Saharan Africa. They argue that women farmers are often not as efficient as they should be because gender relations frequently do not allow them to be effective decision-makers.
