2022 Global Report on Food Crises

The 2022 Global Report on Food Crises (GRFC 2022) highlights the alarming deterioration of acute food insecurity in 2021 in numerous food-crisis countries/territories. Nearly 193 million people were in Crisis or worse (IPC/CH Phase 3 or above) or equivalent in 53 countries/territories where comparable data were available in 2021 – as a result of intensified conflict, significant economic shocks, and some of the most severe weather extremes in recent years, or a combination of these drivers. The GRFC 2022 offers an overview of the world’s food crises in 2021, utilizing data from the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), the Cadre Harmonisé (CH), or comparable sources to provide acute food insecurity estimates. The report focuses on countries/territories where there is ample evidence that the magnitude and/or severity of the food crisis exceeds the local resources and capacities needed to respond effectively, leading to a request for the urgent mobilization of the international community.
